Horse Meat = Rickets??

With the whole Ubereem eats horsemeat legend growing, it got me thinking that I would like to get in on the action. I have two great (in my mind) reasons for wanting to eat horsemeat and they are as follows:

1) Horsemeat is supposed to be ultra high in protein
2) I hate horses.

Some dream killing bastard told me that the reason people don't eat horsemeat in the states is because it gives people rickets. I'm not really sure what rickets are but none the less, I probably don't want them. It sounds like it is a condition that could involve chafing of the scrotal area...the scrotus megamus.

Does anyone know if there is any truth to the horsemeat - rickets connection? I'd really like to get busy killing and eating my ex-girlfriends horses if there is no truth to the matter.

Horses get rickets which is some bone disease. Id think theyre defo safe to eat anyway, so go kill and rape and then eat your ex-girlfriend's horses to your heart's content.

Horses are widely eaten in various north and central European countries. They cant be harmful.....


(then again, two "legal" drugs are responsible for more deaths each year than all the illegal ones put together, booze and fags, so I probably shouldn't assume that horsemeat is harmless just cos it's legal)

I eat horse meat on a daily basis. It has a better protein to fat ratio, and is cheaper than beef. It's also pretty damn tasty. My biggest problem with eating horse meat was actually finding a place to buy it.

Also, a lot of the reason why people don't eat horse meat anymore has to do with a papal ban on eating it. Eating horse was apparently an important part of Norse pagan religious ceremonies. The pope decided the connection between eating horse and paganism was too strong so he banned it. When the church was trying to convert Iceland to catholicism, one of the concessions they made was to allow the people there to continue to eat horse if they converted. Unfortunately the church are jerks and once they established power in Iceland they reneged and banned horse meat there too. The ban was lifted since then (19th century I think), but I still like to think my eating of horse is working against the pope's wishes and bringing me closer to Thor.

Rickets stems from a lack of Vitamin-D, it has nothing to do with meat.
