... to just take off to Japan - literally the other side of the planet - without the ability to speak or read their language, and swim in terms of the "sink or swim" factor?

I fuck off all the time to places on a whim, and generally do all right or just weasle through. I find cheap accomm, and enjoy myself looking around. If I went to Tokyo one NYE on a whim for Dynamite, what are the chances I'll be lost, robbed of all possessions and on the streets? Or would a streetwise kid be able to find a cheap room (speaking only English) and sort himself out?

RPM, this is 40% directed at you Very Happy don't know how much planning and prep you did, but you made the jump my man. And not for the weekend Wink

Pretty difficult to be honest. If you hook up with some westerners you might find somewhere to sleep at night, but you'd need a job and a visa if you're talking about staying for longer than 3 months.

I don't think your personality would be a good match for all the rules over here. It's a pretty oppressive society mate.

No threat of being robbed though.

I came here with a job, visa, and accommodation all sorted, and with A LOT of money in my pocket (about 8 grand). The exchange rate has also plummeted from 240 yen to 130 yen for 1 GBP...not the best of time to come over tbh. I also had a couple of Japanese friends from uni who supported me.

That's not to say I haven't met any chancers over here...they just don't seem to survive for that long.

I can say with 100% honesty; you have probably just saved me from a pretty horrendous NYE experience. I was 65% certain I'd be heading out for Dynamite this year.

When the recession is over, I'll definitely look into it though. Cheers mate!

I love you

lol, no worries. Shame you don't live in London, as there are a few places where you could meet Japanese folk and blag somewhere to stay.

But seriously, wait for the exchange rate to go back to normal...the yen is ridiculously overpriced at the moment. My parents were over here recently and couldn't grasp why everything was double the price compared to the last time they were here.

Instead of Japan you should think about heading out to Rockford, IL USA. I can get you a mininmum wage job pretty quickly if you know how to make ham sandwiches. I can hook you up with a couple ugly heroin addicted chicks and you can stay on one of my dirtbag friend's couches.

You would def get robbed though, at least a couple times... plus we get very little JMMA here, but we do have some great street fights to watch.

Rockford, IL = Heaven on Earth

Why? You are like Mohammed, you reached the paradise (but even without killing and raping innocent people)
